Feedback with regards to Saffron Walden. - 2008, Early April
Hi Susan
I wanted to give you some feedback with regards to Saffron Walden. Thank you to you and your supporters for you amazing support for our project and for those less fortunate in this beautiful nation of ours.
Saffron Walden is about 20 kilometers out of Harare on the Bualawyo road and most of the people needing help in the community have been widowed or orphaned. They are staying in dwellings that used to house farm workers when the commercial farms were productive and with the land redistribution there are very few jobs in the community and no means of buying the inputs i.e. seed fertilizer to grow their own food.
I have the following names of those in the community who are in need of support and for prayers.
Orphans with no parents
Levison ( he is sick with the AIDS virus and has been in hospital recently so we were able to assist with his medical expenses. he is now staying with the community and we would like to asset with ARV drugs if we can source them)
Mabel she is Levison's sister and is being cared for also in he community
Chris also has the AIDS virus and very poorly he is being cared for by his grandmother
Tinashe is 4 years old

The Saffron Walden team met after chruch on Sunday and it was agreed that the most urgent need is food distribution so we are releasing all the funds we have received last week to purchase maize from the city market at a highly inflated black market price ( we have to pay the price at the moment as it is in short supply). We are at present only allowed to cash 500 million dollars daily and we need to get 5 billion so will take over a week to get the cash out of the bank. Whatever food we can source this week will be distributed on Saturday at the service when the community meet together and the Avondale Nazarene support team will go out and assist with this and I can take the photos with my digital camera and forward to you.
We have invested the previous funds in materials to build the chicken runs and will need to spend more before we can get this up and running. We are also waiting to get water supplies from the borehole to the homestead and need to further secure the borehole pump before it gets stolen ( this is an ongoing problem ,the Avondale church borehole was stolen by armed robbers last month)
The community have assisted in planting maize at Saffron Walden and we are hoping to reap shortly which will help with food supplies.
Our goal is to start a small preschool group/playgroup during the week for the younger children at Saffron and we will be looking to source materials for this in the near future.
The following are the names of our leaders who live at Saffron Walden and who would appreciate your prayers
Donny Mauka his wife Charmaine and 2 year old son Donny junior
Tanaka and Mathilda Mutambanegwe
I will endeavor to send you regular updates for prayer needs at Saffron
Thank you and God bless you all
